Most centipedes need to live in moist places, but a few can survive in deserts and dry grasslands.

• Most have long, flat, segmented bodies with short legs and are covered in a tough, flexible exoskeleton, though some have rounded bodies and long legs. Each segment has one pair of legs and a pair of antennae on the head.
• At the head, one pair of legs is modified to work as fangs that bite and deliver venom, while the last pair of legs is often used like antennae for sensing instead of walking.
